So yesterday we had a sign of Spring, the Spring Training trucks leaving Miller Park. Today we have another: The announcement of the return of the Shamrock Shake at McDonalds.
More on that in a minute, but talk about burying the lead with this announcement/photo! The real story is McDonalds rolling out a mint Oreo McFlurry. McFlurry's might be the most underrated ice cream/soft serve treat in the game. I'm not going to say they top Dairy Queen Blizzards, or Culver's Concrete Shakes, but it's a lot closer battle than they get credit for. The M&M McFlurry was the bottom of my food pyramid for about a year when it debuted.
Anyway, back to the Shamrock Shake. Let me say this as clearly as I can: As much as I appreciate it's spot in the, 'Signs of Spring,' power rankings, it is the most overrated drink/shake of all time. It tastes like straight up toothpaste. Like they just power-blend some ice and some Aquafresh, put some whipped cream on the top and call it a day.
Let me introduce you to the GOAT of the mint shake game:
The Arby's Andes mint shake. If you like the Shamrock Shake, try this one and you'll never go back. It's like high-def versus standard-def. Shamrock Shake gets all of the headlines, but the Arby's Andes shake is quietly behind the scenes just being the tastiest mint shake on the planet. Every single person that I've enlightened on this topic, has tried the Arby's shake, and thanked me for changing their life for the better. 100%. I will preach this gospel until the day I die. Which given the amount of these bad boys I consume while they're available, is probably not that far off.
PS: We were debating this on the air today, and somebody said the Culver's mint shake is the runaway winner. Let me say this again: The Arby's mint shake dominates all.
Double PS: Hindsight being 20/20, spending on hour on the morning show discussing how Arby's is better than McDonalds and Culvers probably wasn't the smartest decision, considering McDonalds and Culvers are sponsors, and Arby's is not.
