Staley NOOOOOOOOOO! I can't stop watching this clip. Over and over and over again. Absolutely hilarious watching this bear mascot fall down like
Ric Flair after a knife edge chop
. Honest to God whoever is in that costume should get an Academy Award for this effort. The awareness, the style, the grace, it had it all! 10! I give it a 10!
Now, as I put on my Facebook page yesterday, I don't want to be 'that' guy today. I don't want to be the guy whose team didn't even make the playoffs, that's dancing on his team's rival's grave because some other team beat them. I don't want to be that guy. Because for my whole life, that's what Bears fans have done to us. For the better part of almost three decades, the Packers were always in the playoffs, and the Bears were not. And when the Packers would suffer a devastating playoff loss, what fan base was the first one that started chirping us? The fans of the team that actually beat us? Nope. The group of people we always heard from first, were Bears fans. Basically throwing parades down Michigan Ave when the Eagles/Niners/Seahawks would beat us in heartbreaking fashion. And I made a vow to myself a long time ago, that if I were ever living in a world where the Bears were in the playoffs and the Packers weren't, that I would not do the same to them. So I'm NOT going to post things like this:
Or this:
And definitely not this:
I simply won't do it. I'm a Packers fan. If the Packers aren't the team eliminating the Bears, if the Packers are at home while the Bears actually made the playoffs, then I don't have anything to cheer about. Credit to me for being the bigger person.
PS: I'll tell you one thing, if Bears fans need any help coping today, Packer fans are probably the people they could come to for advice. Nobody knows about rip-your-heart-out-of-your-chest playoff losses more than we do. And nobody knows more about rip-your-heart-out-of-your-chest playoff losses that are the result of inept kicking more than Viking fans.
The NFC North fan bases could pick the Bears up a bit here today. My advice? Eat. Eat a lot. After the loss to the Seahawks in 2014, I ate Cheez-Its for 8 straight hours. Box after box after box. And after 8 hours, I actually started to feel better! And by 'better,' I mean 'no longer want to take a rocket ship to the sun.'
Triple PS: There's a part of me that does feel bad for Cody Parkey. Absolutely bananas that he missed 11 field goals this year, and six, SIX, of those were the result of hitting an upright. What are the odds on that?? He stood outside of his locker and took his beating from the media like a man yesterday as well. The good news for him is that he's the highest paid kicker in the league and is guaranteed 3.5 million dollars next year no matter what the Bears do with him.
Quadruple PS: Is this is the first quad-PS in Strange Brew history?! My favorite reaction videos from Bears fans are the videos where, for a split second, they think it hit the upright, then the crossbar, then went through. I actually thought the same thing in real time.
1 second of heartbreak, 1 second of joy, followed by indefinite heartbreak. Sports, man. The best!
