Wisconsin Congressman Ryan defends Obamacare lawsuit

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan of Janesville defends a lawsuit Republicans are considering against President Obama over the use of executive powers.

The full House was scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to sue Obama over his use of presidential orders in implementing the Affordable Care Act.

At a breakfast in Washington put on by the Christian Science Monitor, Ryan said the lawsuit would show that the GOP would not "take this lying down." However, Ryan said he opposed any talk of impeachment -- something all 4 Republicans who hope to replace Congressman Tom Petri said they would favor.

Ryan said impeachment applies to "high crimes and misdemeanors," and the fight over executive power does not rise to that level.

Ryan accused the White House and Democrats of fueling the impeachment talk. In his words, it's a "ridiculous gambit" that seeks to "change the narrative, raise money, and turn out their base for an upcoming election they feel is going to go over their way."
