GRATIOT, Wis. (WSAU-Wheeler News) -- Lafayette County officials are suing the estate of an elected official for alleged embezzlement.
Robert Hermanson, elected as treasurer and clerk for the Village of Gratiot, is accused of stealing 134-thousand dollars over a five-year period from the town. When he was confronted with evidence of the scheme, Hermanson was found dead the next day. Lafayette County authorities ruled his death a suicide.
Court records also indicate Hermanson paid himself a salary of 18-thousand dollars… the position is supposed to be voluntary.
