SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -The Sheboygan Police Department is ramping up efforts to make it safer in Sheboygan - especially in areas where taverns are located. Lt. Scott Mittelstadt says they are putting together a Tavern Safety Coalition, which will meet on Monday at 6 o’clock at Farnsworth Middle School. Mittelstadt said they will focus on taverns because recent research done by the department shows much of the trouble and crime in the city is centered in areas where there are taverns. Mittelstadt said the meeting will focus on areas of concern, including assaults in and around bars, minors drinking, drugs and property crimes. He said the meeting will include bar owners, business owners, taxi companies and anyone else who wishes to attend. He said Mittelstadt said the department is ready to offer training to taverns and other licensed establishments in areas of over-serving, basic liquor laws and proper ID practices.
