Last week, Tenacious D received the first-ever Grammy nomination of their career. The band’s third album, Rize of the Fenix , is up for Best Comedy Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Frontman Jack Black says that the nod is not only a victory for the band, but for their loyal fans as well.
“I feel like the Tenacious D nation would've staged some kind of protest if we hadn't won,” Black tells
. “So I'm just happy that there won't be a riot.”
He adds that Rize of the Fenix is The D's “best album so far” and was destined to be recognized with a Grammy nomination. “We just wrote what I consider to be a masterpiece,” the singer notes. “Very proud of the work. Not just as comedy, but as just a musical piece.”
Once their current tour wraps up, Black expects Tenacious D to take another hiatus. “We need to now just enjoy life and live life and experience the world,” he reveals. “And then we'll come back with fresh eyes again in a couple of years.”
