Sheboygan, Wis. (WHBL) - A Sheboygan County native charged with murdering his wife in Oneida County last June is still in jail in Rhinelander awaiting a jury trial on a murder charge.  40 year old William Schmidt is accused of murdering his wife Lori in their Minoqua home and then fleeing to his mother’s home in Sheboygan Falls.  He was arrested there and returned to Oneida County to face the charge.  During a status conference yesterday, Judge Mark Mangerson set October 19th as the date for the trial which is expected to last for 8 days.  Schmidt was arrested after law officers found his wife’s decomposing body in the couple’s home.  Schmidt told officers he had tried to kill himself 3 times after the murder, but each attempt failed.  Schmidt has been held in jail on $500,000 cash bail since his arrest.
