UNDATED (WSAU) Wood County's adult drug court program will continue through the end of 2012 thanks to a state grant. Without the $108,000 from the state justice department, the program would have shut down at the end of the year. Wood County will cover about 25-percent of the program's operating costs.

Supporters of the program say its less expensive than handling drug-offenses through the regular court system, and, since it offers treatment options -- there's a lower recidivism rate.

49 people took part in the program over the last four years. Slightly more than have were able to avoid re-offending. There are another 22 people who are currently going through the program.
