SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The murder trial of a Milwaukee man accused of killing another Milwaukee man in Sheboygan entered its third day Wednesday in Sheboygan County Court.

Wednesday proved to be the most technical day of Michael Moffett’s trial as Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco called several members of the Wisconsin State Crime Lab as well as the doctor who performed Luis DeLeon’s autopsy.

Dr. Mark Witeck, a forensic pathologist, took the stand to detail his findings after conducting the autopsy on DeLeon following his shooting death one year ago. Dr. Witeck told the court all seven gunshot wounds to DeLeon’s back were entrance wounds and the corresponding exit wounds on the front were on an angle, indicating Moffett had been standing over him during the shooting. Dr. Witeck also told the court about the presence of THC and cocaine in DeLeon’s system and added three of the gunshot wounds separately would have been fatal.

Also taking the stand Wednesday was Steven Brown, who while only testifying for less than 10 minutes, told the court Moffett had mentioned wanting to kill DeLeon as far back as October, 2007.

DeCecco also called Kerry Bohannon, whom he described as the State's key witness. Bohannon told the court he was driving with DeLeon and DeLeon’s girlfriend, Chanda Moffett, Michael Moffett’s cousin, when they spotted Michael Moffett walking on Huron Avenue and DeLeon told Bohannon to stop the car so he could talk to Moffett. Bohannon testified that as Moffett and DeLeon talked he could see DeLeon walking backwards with his hands up in the rearview mirror. Bohannon went on the record saying he saw DeLeon get shot and as he sped away, he could see Moffett standing over DeLeon, firing multiple shots.

The State’s final witness, Sheboygan Police Detective Joel Clark, began his testimony Wednesday and will conclude his time on the witness stand Thursday.

DeCecco is expected to rest the State’s case Thursday, with Moffett’s attorney Robert Wells beginning his defense. Closing arguments could come Friday morning with jury deliberations beginning then.
